Nakayama Architects was established by the award-winning architect, Makoto Nakayama in 1988 and is based in the city of Sapporo in northern Japan. As a practice, Nakayama Architects are completely dedicated to the wishes and needs of the client. Buildings are designed with both the location and the client’s lifestyle at the forefront of the architect’s mind and every effort is made to ensure that the client is completely satisfied. To create a comfortable living space for his clients, Makoto Nakayama stresses the importance of “environment, atmosphere and light”. He has also been profoundly influenced by traditional Japanese architecture, and has studied the forms of both machiya townhouses, and Katsura Imperial Palace in Kyoto. Nakayama says, “I would like to incorporate Japanese beauty, long cultivated in Japanese history, into Japanese architecture as one of its guardians.”
